Burning Torch
燃燈仏 (Skt, Pali Dipamkara; Jpn Nento-butsu)

Also known as Fixed Light. A Buddha to whom Shakyamuni, when practicing as a Bodhisattva named Learned Youth in a previous existence, once offered Flowers. It is recorded that, when Learned Youth tossed five Lotus blossoms toward The Buddha Burning Torch as an Offering, they remained afloat in the air. When Bodhisattva Learned Youth spread his cloak and his own Hair over marshy ground for The Buddha to walk upon, Burning Torch predicted that Learned Youth would become a Buddha in the future. The Buddha Burning Torch is described in several texts. The Treatise on the Great Perfection of Wisdom refers to him as Burning Torch, and the Sutra of The Buddha's Marvelous Deeds in Previous Lifetimes, as Fixed Light. According to the "Introduction" (first) chapter of the Lotus Sutra, The Buddha Burning Torch was one of the eight sons of a Buddha named Sun Moon Bright. He practiced the Lotus Sutra under his father's Disciple, Bodhisattva Wonderfully Bright, and attained Enlightenment.
