Ryushin
隆真 (n.d.)

    Also known as Butcho-bo.

A priest of the Tendai school in the early Kamakura period (1185-1333) who lived at Enryaku-ji temple on Mount Hiei in Japan.

At Enryaku-ji he was appointed discussion supervisor, whose function it was to select topics for and oversee Buddhist discussions among the priests.

He criticized as evil the exclusive practice of the Nembutsu, or calling on the name of Amida Buddha, set forth by Honen, the founder of the Japanese Pure Land (Jodo) school.

Some credit A Refutation of "The Nembutsu Chosen above All," a work critical of the doctrine of the exclusive practice of the Nembutsu, to Ryushin.
